ANIMAL LIFELINE IS A
Volunteer run and led animal outreach organisation. We have no staff nor premises nor do we pay salaries.
Registered non-profit company (NPC)
Public benefit organisation (PBO) which means we are approved by SARS to issue tax benefit certificates for monetary donations
Member of the Cape Animal Welfare Forum
Animal Lifeline operates within under-resourced rural and urban communities in Cape Town
Our core focus is primary prevention which entails the education of owners and sterilisation of their pets
Adopting a 'duty to care' approach and based on a 'means' test, Animal Lifeline Volunteers collaborate with owners to uplift the circumstances of their sterilised pets; issuing kennels, providing basic preventative care and parasite treatment and supplemental feed until the owner can care for their pets independently. Naturally this is funding-dependent
Our goal is an 80-20 split of resources and capacity between prevention and intervention
In accordance with the ethos of 'duty to care' our projects include :
"Don't let them go hungry" - supplemental and subsidised feeding of sterilised vulnerable pets
"Winter Woofs & Meows" - the provision of kennels for sterilised dogs (and cats where indicated)
Optimal health - De-worming and tick and flea prevention as well as treatment for mites and sarcoptic mange
Free to be - Unchaining of pets is a complex process and one that we prioritise for education and rehabilitation
